Sugar is 8 Times More Addictive Than Cocaine

Sugar Talk with Dr. Michael Goran and Dr. Bill Cole

Dunn Pellier Media’s PR client, Dr. Michael Goran, Ph.D., and Dr. Emily Ventura’s recent book, SUGARPROOF: The Hidden Dangers of Sugar That Are Putting Your Child’s Health at Risk and What You Can Do. Sugarproof busts myths about types of sugars and sweeteners, which can go by over 200 different names, and encourages families to take on a life-changing 7-Day No Added Sugar Challenge or 28 Day gradual reduction to kick start change and right-size their  intake of the sweet stuff.

Sugarproof: The hidden dangers of sugar

Last week, Dr. Goran teamed up with fellow Dunn Pellier Media Wellness client Dr. Bill Cole. Together they hosted an Instagram Live to dive deeper into a discussion about sugar and its negative effects on the body. We encourage you to listen and learn things about sugar and how it may be negatively impacting your life. Spoiler alert: if you’re eating added sugars beyond whole fruits, you are being impacted. The extent depends on how much you’re consuming. Click here for Instagram Live.

Take Back Your Health Now

Dr Bill Cole takes a look at sugar intake

To summarize a little bit of the discussion, Dr. Bill Cole talked about his 5 step method to help his patients take back their health:

  1. Identify the source of energy depletion (which is often sugar itself)
  2. Regenerate the cell membrane
  3. Restore energy (and remember: the sweet stuff will create energy depletion)
  4. Reduce inflammation
  5. Establish methylation

How Adults Can Reduce Sugar Intake

Dr. Goran discussed the two plans in his book to reduce intake of the sweet stuff.  One is just quitting cold turkey for 7 days and the other which is a gentler 28 days. Research shows that you can get metabolic benefits even after just 7 days of eliminating sugar! For any parent dealing with behavior issues like ADHD, Dr. Goran shares that these kinds of behaviors improve within just a couple of days of eliminating sugar!

How Toddlers Can Reduce Sugar Intake

And for those of you with toddlers, keep reading. Because the effects of the sweet stuff are far worse on a toddler or growing child than on an adult. Why? Because sugar can alter the state of cellular development as a child is developing. During brain development, it can be more detrimental because it can alter the state of cellular development. High levels of fructose can make a stem cell more likely to develop into a fat cell!

Dr. Goran and Dr. Cole discuss the differences between fructose and glucose (and trust us – there is a difference), along with a discussion about fruits versus alternative sweeteners, and more.

If you have children – or if you yourself are suffering from health issues and you know you are consuming too much sugar –  tune in to this important Instagram chat!
